Adrian Mastracci, investment counsel at Vancouver’s
‘fee-only’ KCM Wealth Management, says, “Watch out for mutual funds that replace their managers suddenly.”
Adrian Mastracci, Vancouver financial advisor and president of KCM Wealth Management, offers a few ideas to investors considering mutual funds:
- Consider Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) and Index Funds as part of your portfolio.
- For traditional funds, look for those with lower turnover and low management-expense ratios (MERs).
- Watch out for mutual funds that replace their managers suddenly.
- Keep tabs on whether a fund's investment objectives change.
- Be aware of major or sudden shifts in performance, up or down, but don't necessarily pull out.
- Consider the costs of exiting and only sell for the right reasons.
